Mangwe Rural District Council was established in 2002 through the Rural District Councils Act [Chapter 29:13]. The district consists of seventeen wards and a rural population of 65,562 as per the 2022 Census. Council is responsible for infrastructural planning and control of development, provision of housing and social services, promotion of economic development, and management of natural resources.
